Members of the Holy Trinity Branch traveled with members of Hamilton(St.Mary’s) Mothers Union to the Diocesan Festival held at St.Michael and All Angels Helensburgh – Saturday 11th August. We were welcomed by the Rector Rev Dominic Ind, and the service was led by Rev Lucy Ireland – Diocesan Chaplain of the Mothers’ Union and Bishop Gregor Duncan gave the sermon. Taking his text from the letter of Paul to the Philippians – bishop Gregor reflected on the life and work of Mary Sumner in establishing the organisation, on what she might have faced, and about the journey Mary Sumner had followed in her pioneering work. All those present were asked to consider what kind of journey Mary Sumner is praying that we might take? Referring to the challenge of initial feelings of inadequacy that Mary Sumner felt, which she overcame to lead the organisation from the outset – we were all challenged likewise to consider our own limitations; and that being aware of them is essential to being able to live well. God in strength is working with us and through us. We need to trust ourselves to God’s love.
